Sitting on a pebble by the river playing guitar

Posted in: Uncategorized

Okay, no, not really. But for some crazy reason that song popped into my head just now and I haven’t heard it in years. Should that mean something? Perhaps….but only if my “iPod shuffle” songs mean something too:

Tonight’s songs consisted of (in order):

I Don’t Care - Shakespeare’s Sister

I Wanna Talk About Me - Toby Keith

Walk Away - Kelly Clarkston

Same Old Lang Syne - Dan Fogelberg

Only Time Will Tell - Asia

Coin Operated Boy - The Dresden Dolls

I’d Do Anything for Love - The Loaf of Meat

Crucify - Tori Amos

Love Somebody - Rick Springfield

Rio - Duran Duran

Yeah, so according to my theory, they all are supposed to mean something right now. I can’t really find a correlation though. And, yes, I know I spelled that wrong and ended that sentence horribly. But now I’m having a beer, so that makes it acceptable. Oh, yes, it DOES. I have a piece of paper hanging on the wall that says I can do that. :)

In any case — what a wonderful night! Tonight, I met friends out at Taco Mac (taco-mac.com) for a few beverages and it was such a lovely time! The main reason for this gathering was because my friend Jack from the Charlotte Hash House Harriers was in town on business and we needed to meet up to catch up. His lovely girlfriend Sonya was with him and they met me, P2, and TOS (”the Other Stacy” - yes, that’s your new knickname in my blog, Ms. Pumpt’kin! See? You’ve “made it” when you get knicknamed!) at the bar after work for a couple of drinks. Later, P’did, aka PWD, aka PWL, aka He With A Baby Mama joined us as well.

I picked Taco Mac solely because I was ONE drink away from my t-shirt. They have a “Passport Club” where one gets rewarded upon certain number of drinks. And I finally made it to….wait for it…after 10 whole months… 13 drinks!!! See? I’m not as much a lush as y’all think I am! (Okay, maybe I am and I’ve just not been back here)

Current song (still on iPod shuffle): Centerfield - John Fogerty

So, I got there first and waited on my group. Did I mention I got there a good 45 minutes before any of the rest of them? Most had excuses, mind you. P2 had a meeting that started at 5pm, so when I arrived at 5:15, I didn’t expect him anytime soon. Same went for TOS. Jack, however, just blew me off. I didn’t know what was up with that, so I text messaged him asking if he was still coming and he called back. Apparently he never got my text (I didn’t know not to text to the only phone number I had for him; his phone with no battery!) and thought I was standing him up. Silly man! So he did eventually show, apologizing profusely (good man!) along with his darling girlfriend Sonya.

Current song (for those of you playing at home): In a Big Country - Big Country (didn’t this singer go the way of Michael Hutchence? Too bad. :( There’s never enough bagpipes in today’s music.)

So, anywho, when I first got there, I got a lot of sympathetic glances. A girl, sitting there by herself at a table, all alone. Did she have friends? Was she just looking to get lucky? What’s up? And every once and a while someone would come by and try to steal a chair and I had to beat them off with the Evil Glaucoma’d Eye. ;) Okay, joking aside, even my waiter asked me at one point, “how many in your party?” looking anxiously at the 4 chairs around me, wondering: “damn, why didn’t the bitch sit at the bar if I wasn’t going to be able to make a good tip out of this?” Okay, maybe he didn’t wonder that, but he did seem pleasantly surprised when I responded, “at least four.” “At least four?” He responded, seriously, surprised — like I said. “Maybe five,” I added. Happy enough, he wandered off. Probably disbelieving me, but oh yeah, I proved him wrong. Besides that, he could tell I wasn’t a 22-year-old something who would probably tip, oh, about $1 or so, so he probably assumed as well that if I had 5 friends coming, he might actually do well afterall. He was not wrong.

Song (not that it matters now, but I’m going to keep doing this as long as I’m blogging): Over and Over — Mindy McCready

So, anywho, my dear P2 didn’t disappoint and showed up first. TOS was next and Jack and Sonya came in after. Moments later, P’did called and asked if “happy hour was still going on?” We told him to come on by. So he did…only to disappear to another party in another part of the bar that apparently was more entertaining. HMPH!! Then we learned it was a Georgia Tech alumni group and we laughed and didn’t feel slighted at all. ;) Here’s P’did gettin’ smooched from both sides:

Song: Here You Come Again - Dolly Parton

We told Sonya that she’s family now and welcomed in the Altanta Hash at anytime. (www.atlantahash.com) We also tried to explain all the hashes we have here in a month but lost count and had another drink instead.

Other highlights? P2 told me I should be “sophisticated” and eat my wings with knife and fork. So I tried to do it until he realized chances were that I’d either cut him with my utencils or flip my entire food plate over on him. So I stopped, only to accidentally throw a chicken bone at him later while trying to eat with my fingers. Huh. I think it even bounced off his noggin. Oops. Well, in any case, no one can ever say from this point that I’ve never thrown him a bone.

Song: Nobody - Sylvia

Damn, I have a messed up music collection. Time for another picture!

Another highlight? My waiter who was previously pitying me came back to ask me what my sweatshirt read (my UWSP Alumni sweatshirt) and what the heck UWSP was…not for me, but for the group a few tables over who were wondering.

(Song? Whenever, Wherever - Shakira)

Woo! So, naturally, my first thought was: who was asking? what table? cute guys by chance? Yeah, well, probably not….my luck. ;) They probably thought it was LSU tigers anyway, that whole purple-gold-animal paw thing. Still nice.

Anywho, it was a lovely night and I thank my dear friends (and fellow bloggers!) for coming out to help me get my shirt and kill a Wednesday evening. It was impromptu, last minute, and a very nice time. Bless!

Song: Life Goes On - LeAnn Rimes

Now, if I could only get the lot of them to blog about tonight I could die, or, er, at least sleep, happy. MWAH darlin’s!

UWSP = University of Wisconsin Stevens Point! UWSP!

TOS emailed me the link for the pictures and to find out how she spends her evenings. I know of TacoMac, when I am in Kennesaw for business, we stay at the HIE and there is one within walking distance to the hotel. Which on many late night occassions it has come in handy for a nightcap beer!

    On On

  4. Stacy Says:

Well, hello eggbeater. Next time you’re in town, gather up the Stacys and let’s Taco Mac!

By the way, did you know what UWSP was, or was it because I wrote about it earlier? It’s rare to find someone who knows!
