Impromptu Spanish theology lessons can be fun. No, really!

Bumper art I saw this morning:

“Yo me voy en el rapto”

I call it “bumper art” as opposed to, say, a ”bumper sticker,” because it truly was just black marker lettering across the bumper of the car.  I kid you not.   It wasn’t even centered…that bugged the little artist perfectionist in me, of course.  But it was honestly like someone decided one day to pick up the Sharpie and just write the phrase on the back of their car.

Anyway, I was tickled that I could comprehend what it said even though, yeah, I know, this wasn’t too difficult in the whole realm of Spanish words.  (Still working on learning more of that!)  I understood that the occupant of the vehicle, or at least the creater of the art, is confident he’ll be one of those taken at the time of the Rapture.

[FYI, for those who many not know: The rapture (”harpazo” in Greek in 1 Thessalonians 4:17) is the common description of the event in Christian eschatology (end of days events) in which Christians will be “taken” or “caught up” from Earth to to be with Jesus Christ.  — as explained in Wikipedia.   Those who’ve read “The Left Behind” series of books will get this, too.  This should not be confused with Blondie’s “Rapture” in which he, along with the Martians, would in fact be eating his car.]

Good for him! Hopefully the Rapture won’t occur while he’s driving, but the warning’s appreciated nonetheless if that’ll indeed be the case.

So, yeah, just being me, I still had to put the phrase into my translator just to make sure I was understanding what I thought I was.   It turns out I was (woo!) but the literal translation made me giggle:

“I go away in the kidnapping.”
