Work. Yeah, the first, but not in a bad way.

Isn’t it mandatory at some point to talk about work in your blog? I guess it’s inevitable in some ways, especially if it’s a big part of your life (whether you like it or not). :) But I’m a little gun shy about it, of course. Not only because it’s a public forum and I’d hate to have to go hidden, but because in the past I’ve been burned because of it (those of you who know me from LJ days may know the story).

Okay, so I am one of the few who actually like my job. It is a JOB and all, but I never dread having to go to work, so that’s gotta be a good sign. I just started a year ago and have been sort of an outcast there. Not socially, mind you — the people there? No problem. But I had no manager (he was fired 3 days after I started) and was seated far away from anyone in my work position who could possibly help me. So it was a “teach yourself” kind of situation. It was a: get to make friends or you’re on your own! Kind of thing. That part was okay…socially. That really hasn’t been a problem of mine for years. But work wise? I soon realized these folks couldn’t have helped me if they had wanted to.

I was hired for this little division of the company that no one knew anything about. It was crazy. It was frustrating. It was lonely and made me cry. But it was the best and fastest growing division in our company this year. :-)

That is the reason I truly believe I got my new workspace…with a window! :-) Sure, yes, it’s a cube….and, well, our company is moving to a new building this summer. But I have a corner! And higher walls! And a window…with my own blinds and everything! :-)

Home away from home and the SW view from my window.

It’s amazing how when you expect so little, you’re happy by so little.

Aw, shit. I’m getting philosophical again. I better sober up. ;-) Or fix a martini.

(jury’s still out.)
