Just more puppy stuff. Oh, and I suck at monopoly!
I’m probably being overly cautious, but I really don’t feel good leaving Stella alone. I know I’ll have to tomorrow when I go to work, but then Eric will be around and can check in on her now and again too. I’ve decided to skip the parade today for this reason too :( …I’m really disappointed and hated to let Amy and Leah down but they were so sweet and understanding. I had let them know yesterday it might have been a posibility but really thought I’d go then.
But Stella just seems so lathargic. If we’re in the house, she just whines and whines, which I guess I can understand since she’s used to being an outside dog. But if we go out, I need to stay out with her and there’s not much to do in the backyard to keep me entertained for more than a couple hours at a time and I can’t leave her alone. She’s content out there but will jump up to run after something and I’m so afraid she’ll hurt herself again.
Last night, my friends Jay and Georgia were complete angels and came by to keep me company again. I’m not sure I really showed them how much I appreciated it. I didn’t expect to be in all weekend so it was just so nice that I had a little company.
We sat up board games on the back porch so Stella could be outside too. Stella picked up, too, liking the company. And, wow, when she’s had her pain killers, she has no fear. We turned our heads for a minute and she was around the front of the house and across the street into the neighbor’s yard. I can’t put the electric collar on around her bucket, so this must’ve been a freedom run for her! That was encouraging, but a little scary.
Now I’m concerned that she’s not eating. I’ve gotten her to drink water, but her food is going untouched. She just turns her nose up at it. She will, however, take a biscuit and her pills wrapped in the little pill pockets, though I think she discovered she doesn’t like the big anti-biotic one because she kept spitting it out. I had to wrap it in a bit of shaved ham for her and, oh then she scarfed it down. I’m not sure if they feed her people food but I reckon if I had to to give her medicine, they’ll forgive me this bit. People have told me that when they’re hungry, they’ll eat and at least she’s drinking…but still. If it’s not touched by this afternoon I’m going to call the vet again. She’s due back in two days anyway, so that makes me feel a little better.
Anyway, so back to the game! Folks, I absolutely suck at Monopoly. We played Family Guy monopoly and I was way too over-confident and cocky and Jay ended up soundly kicking my butt. Georgia, who I thought was losing most of the game, ended up kicking my butt too. They have told me they’ve done the same to my roomie, though, so I don’t feel so badly. :) Here’s a rare moment when Jay actually had to pay me for landing on a property. I think it happened all of two times.
I set up houses in the ghetto and traded them to Georgia to own one whole side of the board but still managed to lose. Ah well.
I’m starting to feel a little couped up myself and actually am looking forward to going back to work a little. I know there’s probably eighty thousand crises waiting for me though and we’re in the middle of the move to our new office place so everything’s in the middle of being packed into crates and stuff. Oy. That and I’m missing my own kids at home and having all my stuff. Remember how I said my life doesn’t suck? Well, it still really doesn’t. But gosh, this certainly didn’t turn out how I’d expected house sitting! I’m going to allow myself a nice long walk later and I’m sure that will help.
Hope you all are having a good day and that I have happy fun things to report next go-around! :)
The painkiller/antibiotics might be upsetting her tummy a little. You can always try heating up her food in the microwave just a bit…it will make it stinkier and that is what dogs love. Also you might make her a little rice or pasta, it might be easier on the tummy.
Don’t fret too much it sounds like she is doing fine.
June 24th, 2007 at 11:15 amI’m going to try that - thanks Martha! The neighbors told me they couldn’t get her to eat either so I told them I was going to try this little trick you mentioned. When I head up from my computer in a few minutes, I’ll give it a try. :)
June 24th, 2007 at 5:13 pmGlad she is on her way to healing. Just give her lots of hugs- that’s what I always do w/ Dodge.
June 25th, 2007 at 2:24 pmThanks, Karyn! I did that repeatedly - I think it worked! Even the vet said she was healing more quickly than he had expected. :)
