The early bird catches a writing bug!
This hasn’t happened in a very long time, but for some reason I woke up way early today and couldn’t fall back to sleep. Way early as in 4am way early. I tried but after about an hour of failed attempts, decided I may as well get up.
So it’s now 6am, I’m nice and awake thanks to the coffee gods, and I’ve watched Big Brother from last night so I can now go read the people blogs I like without it being ruined. No spoilers here for you TiVo types who don’t get up at 4am to catch it before work. Oh and I can actually blog myself, something I’ve been itching to do for days!
Last night was the Monthly Thursday Night Dinner Group and this month’s hosts were Sue and Neil. Georgia picked up me and my roommie in her sweet new car with that sweet new car smell and we braved the most ridiculous traffic I’ve seen in a while up to East Cobb. Oh and it was so worth the trip! They made us nearly 10 types of meat — and, no, I’m not kidding. Six or seven types of fish (all fantastic), and a couple types of cow. We thanked them for growing up so tasty for us. Sue also surprised me with an Oreo ice cream birthday cake (as my birthday’s tomorrow!!), and, well…let’s just say it didn’t last long at all.
Very tasty, especially dribbled with whatever alcohol that was we dribbled it with on purpose –and not the wine Shane accidentally spilled on the table. I bring that up only in that it earned him, yes! ANOTHER name. The Thursday Night Dinner Group has decided nicknames must be had (of course), and so Shane became “Soiled Doily” last night. Cause, see? The tablecloth looks like a pretty doily. This can also serve as a warning why we don’t use pretty things in our group much.
Earlier this week, friends also gave me the world for my birthday. No, no — I mean literally!
Y’all already know I’m a map freak and all of that, so the Earth ball apparently needed to come home to me. :) This Earth is the most visually authentic and accurate one out there…plus the cities’ lights glow in the dark! I’m going to put a little hook on my ceiling and hang it so I can pretend that when I’m laying in bed, I’m actually on the moon looking over at the world. Yup. I’m just that geeky.
Mom thought it’d be funny to send me what I *really* need now that I’m turning 36.
Ha. Ha. But, actually, a very sweet gift because I really do like the stuff. She also packed oodles of little presents into one big box and I opened them while on the phone with her (God bless bluetooths!) earlier this week. She was the one who first gave me the world (or, er, gave me TO the world?), so I’ve already sent her the thank you card I send her on my birthday every year. :) My box contained all kinds of goodies, including a new set of 400 thread count sheets. Bless! My mama does know me well!
In other news, I got a new shower poof and it has a little tag on it that says: “replace poof every 30 days.” I’m confused as to why, since you’re literally washing it every time you use it.
And on that note, I think I will go do that and really start my day. I’m supposed to hear from a company with whom I’ve interviewed if I got the job or not today. I’m hoping for a yes, of course, but I’m also plugging away at other companies as well. If it happens, it’s supposed to have! If not, I’ll find the right one! Hopefully more sooner than later!
Happy Fridays to all you lovely folks. I had had plans to go out tonight but was actually able to meet those friends (ex-cow orkers) on Wednesday night instead. We played BINGO at the Derby. Everyone kept staring at us — I guess we were a bit obnoxious. In a fun way though! Really! Except I really wanted to kill the caller who kept saying things like: “B10…B, one, oh.” Or “N30…N, 3, oh.” It’s not an O, it’s a ZERO! Sheesh! Admittedly, that probably shouldn’t have bothered me as much as it did… :) But in any case, since Friday moved to Wednesday, Friday night is now going to just be hanging in and enjoying a good book. I’ve managed to rediscover the public library system again too. :)
