Labor Day wrap-up
So I had a creepy dream last night. I dreamt that I was napping/sleeping out in a cemetery and trying to explain to others (I can’t remember who was with me) the pattern of how the bodies probably laid under the ground. With the utmost authoritative reasoning, I pointed out the plots in alignment to the paths and road ways and how certain bodies must absolutely have to lay, otherwise the cars and folks would be driving and walking over them. And, honestly, it was creepy.
What was not creepy for me was the fact that it was the cemetery. What was creepy was that I was afraid of being in the cemetery! This is so not cool as I typically love the little suckers and now I’m a little afraid of being afraid of them. I guess I’ll need to get back out to explore and photograph some this week to get over it.
There are some cute little cemeteries near work here but I haven’t gotten a chance to look at them yet. Maybe one of these days on lunch I’ll go. There’s one right near Sprayberry High School (yup…that’s just how OTP I am these days!) that looks tiny and, hopefully, old.
In Googling “Sprayberry High School” I was surprised a Wikipedia entry came up for it. It seemed impressive until I found the Wikipedia entry on my own high school back in Bumble, Wisconsin. I guess anything can make Wikipedia, huh? One of the amusing “facts” on the Muskego High School Wikipedia page? “The speed limit in the parking lot at Muskego High School is 10mph and is strictly enforced by the Muskego Police Dept. Tickets have been given to students travelling as slow as 12mph (2mph over the limit) in the lot.” Oh yup. That’s great. At least Sprayberry can boast of alums like Travis Tritt and Ty Pennington. We have facts on speed limit citations in the parking lot. Woooooo hoo!
This past weekend was very much fun. Though I stayed in on Friday (unintentionally, mind you…it sucks when an hour “nap” becomes all night!), I was able to hit my friend Martha’s hash and birthday party on Saturday. Much MUCH fun, that was! I shamelessly stole this photo right off her Flickr site:
- Us at the party! She’s got many more photos on her Flickr site too (and if you go to Martha’s House link on the left down over there, hopefully she’ll be writing more about it!) The next day I got to visit with Dee and the gang at her place, and in between the two, scarf down all kinds of bad foods for me (like pizza and crab rangoons, though not together) and watch bits of Big Brother and The Sound of Music (though, again, not together, each kind of do have that Nazi influence in it).
The only disappointment came in heading out to Twain’s with my roommie on Monday evening. No, no – not the hanging with the roommie part! The part where the workers at Twain’s were all big jerks. Everyone we talked with pulled attitude, or weren’t friendly, or when we went one place to order a drink and were ordered to go someplace else, as soon as we got to that someplace else, they told us we needed to go back to the first place. Whatever. :p We had been there to meet the podcasters of our favorite podshow but in that Phil had already met them this weekend and I was disgusted with just spending any more money at Twains, we just came home instead. Which was probably a good thing considering it was time to start the work week again!
So that’s what I’m doing, wondering how these nice long weekends can fly by so fast. Hope y’all had great ones too!
What the heck is WRONG with Twains? We walked out of the place in a huff on Sunday night after being ignored for 15 minutes (my sister, husband, kids in tow …). The waiters weren’t clearing tables or acting like they cared a lick that they had people to wait on. We wound up at Thinking Man’s Tavern where we had a waitress that was prompt and helpful but at that point we had to get our food to go because Maggie was melting down. I am going to boycott Twains for a while now … and told one of the bartenders on the way out why we were leaving and why we wouldn’t be coming back.
I don’t get a chance to read your blog very often but I had to pipe in to vent about Twains … and to say that Saturday was big fun!
September 5th, 2007 at 6:30 amOh, good! Well, not good that you had crappy service, too, but good that it wasn’t only us. I spoke up and said something to the bartender, too, but now I’m seriously considering writing a letter to the place. I’m not sure it would do anything but make ME feel better…but still.
I remember when that place was so accommodating and so much fun! Did they get all snooty with their new design and microbrews? If so, that’s really a shame.
And, yes! Saturday was a blast! It was so nice to see you and Maggie again (once again: holy COW is she getting big! Entirely too precious too). I think we need to make Martha lay trail/host hashes/have birthdays more often. :)
September 5th, 2007 at 9:09 amMartha, doesn’t need to have any more birthdays than she has to…but I’m always up for having a party!!
You guys are all the best!!
Martha
September 5th, 2007 at 9:48 amI think you just hit on a really good new theme: NON-birthday parties!
September 5th, 2007 at 11:03 amSound good just everyone tell me when they want to havve their Non-Birthday party and I’ll take care of it!
September 5th, 2007 at 12:53 pmhey- where are you working near Sprayberry High School? That isn’t too far from my house & office? I’m seeing lunch or something like that in our future?
September 6th, 2007 at 1:29 pmOooh, cool Barb! I’m just a few miles from the school, if that. Definitely lunch or something in our future! I’ll email you privately. :)
Oh, and hey! Isn’t this also near that great Chinese place is that Paulie’s mentioned once or twice?
Dropped some hash stuff by Pumpt’kin’s tonight and totally did not realize how close I was to her or Ooop’s place either. Hmmm…maybe being waaaaaay out here isn’t so bad after all with all y’all as good company!
September 6th, 2007 at 6:18 pmAll you ITP people think Marietta is such a far, far away land, but it really isn’t all that bad. But it is a hard drive from Decatur, bad, bad traffic in between.
Yes, Tasty China is just off 75 at the S. Marietta Pkwy (across the street from my office).
September 7th, 2007 at 6:03 ammy sister graduated from Sprayberry. i would have gone there if we hadn’t moved to Paulding County my Freshman year. :-)
