Arrrr, me mateys!
Today be talk like a pirate day! I, however, will not be talking much like a pirate — or rather, much at all — in that I left my phone at home.
I feel I should be freaking out a little bit here, but right now I’m pretty calm about it all. I reckon no matter how important I think I am, the world will be just fine if I go out of pocket for just one day. :-)
I’m a little tired today, but it was for a good reason: trivia kicked butt last night!! Or, rather, we did. A group converged on Charlie G’s (destined to be a regular thing now that Donkey Punch is riding high) to play a little trivia. With so many folks, we decided to break off into two teams.
And we truly did have two teams — not sharing answers and using each other for competition. It must have worked; we brought home first and second prize ($50 and $35 bar tabs) - woo! Unfortunately, not all my photos worked, so not pictured among these lovely folks were also teammates Allen, Frank and, well, me. :-)
We did learn a few things last night: 1) never doubt Larry when it comes to sewing machines patents, 2) Shrek is the most forgotten ogre ever (but in a side-by-side contest, Jason Bourne is really the cuter one, really), 3) never over-think the War of 1812, 4) learn the damn rivers in Europe, 5) Singapore natives speak English. No, really. For real! I know there was more but I can’t remember anymore. Not a good sign for a trivia teammate. :-)
Darn and today was going to be the day I called you about something really important….JK.
Last night was fun and I didn’t have to pay my bar tab again!
September 19th, 2007 at 6:06 amI think you remembered ALOT from last night. I am not sure I could have remembered more than the patent question. Temp blackouts or just me getting older.
September 19th, 2007 at 9:13 amHella ya! Jeopardy ALWAYS asks questions about the rivers in the world, esp Euro. Here is one for ya- where is the worlds largest acknowledged trivia contest held? Hint: it is the 2nd largest seed bank in the world. If you can’t answer this slap yourself 5x and send this post to all your friends and you will have super fun happy great wishes! Keeping with your chinese theme Nihao! Ma minza Dr Protein:)
September 23rd, 2007 at 12:12 amHey, now! I have to know this one — I actually worked the telephones for it one year with my sorority sisters. Kid you not: It was such a blast! All the local eateries sent over free food (pizzas, subs, you name it) and at that time (it WAS 1993, after all; not sure how they do it now), we’d take the call, write down the name/answer on a piece of paper and run it up to the collector. I know we worked in shifts (a lot of the university groups did it) but I can’t remember how many hours at a time.
There were times the teams wanted to chat (or, more correctly, flirt!) :) but we had to get them off as soon as possible to answer the next call. It got so we’d recognize the voices before they even said their team name; they got to recognize ours, too. It was on more than one occasion when I had to say, “slow down…you’re drunk. Can you tell me your answer again?”
Ah good times. I might need to get back up there to PLAY sometime!
