It’s just a momentary setback
Folks, we have a jumper! Allen’s glee was evident as he watched his comrades’ fire and emergency trucks race up W.Peachtree last night. From the upper level of Charlie G’s, he was able to tell in a single glance by the equipment flying up the street that there was a jumper on a bridge somewhere. And, sure enough, there was. I do think the nearby table of “Youngsters” was duly impressed and awed.
Alas, the Donkey Punch got a donkey kick to the gut last night: losing by 2 measly little points to the Youngster table to take 2nd place, not 1st. This is such a rare occasion (us losing!) that they screamed and jumped up and down and realized just what a feat it was to have beat us. Heh heh. Never again, little kids….never again.
All that said, 2nd place is not so bad. It’s still this $30 bar tab
which, in a lot of places, is a 1st place award, not second. I am The Bearer of The Bucks this week, which means I’ll surely be there again next week to help us re-claim the title.
The biggest compliment is that Aron (who does the question calling) has told us he will be “dumbing-down” the questions a little so as to encourage more teams to play. The fact that we don’t’ know enough “dumb” questions to place first is a compliment, right?
Things we will never soon forget:
- Steve Martin never really quit his day job at SNL
- Sulfuric acid is what makes that rain burn
- Barbra Streisand has wider appeal than any of us ever realized
- If you want to be remembered as an explorer, it’s good to have an unusual first name
- Sudan is really, really big. Oh, but don’t bother trying to look for Burma.
I’m not sure when was the last time I was called “OLD” so many times in one night?
October 17th, 2007 at 8:00 amNo kidding, right? But, wow. For being SO OLD, we do look maaahhhvoulous, don’t we?
(and, yes, that’d be me channelling Steve Martin) :)
October 17th, 2007 at 12:04 pmThat was Billy Crystal….
October 17th, 2007 at 12:11 pmSee? No wonder I got the question wrong!! I meant we’re Wiiiiiiild and Craaaaaaaazy Gals! How’s that?
October 17th, 2007 at 12:29 pmHeh - the Barbra Streisand question came up when I played trivia in Asheville a few months ago. I actually had the answer right, but my team second-guessed me and we came in third place. But that’s the only time I’ve ever been on a trivia team that won ANYTHING, so that was good.
October 17th, 2007 at 2:08 pmElizabeth: I think that’s our problem - we always second guess each other! Of course, it’s usually for good reason. If we have conflicting answers, we try to explain why we have the answer we do…and usually we can’t explain it. :) I guess that’s good cause for second guessing.
Think we may need to recruit you to our team if you know these random things… ;)
October 17th, 2007 at 8:54 pmNow you’ve got it!
