Good morning, Monday.

Good morning, oh glorious day!  I am in a fantastic mood today for no apparent reason so I’m not questioning it.

Okay, perhaps there are apparent reasons:

I am well rested – joy!  I managed to work out both Saturday and Sunday – not much, but certainly more than nothing – and groceried (yes, it’s now a verb) for all kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables after the gym on Sunday.  Saturday took me to the Decatur library (where I was pleased to find it PACKED – yay! People still read!) and Sunday morning I even ventured off to try a new church with a friend…and actually enjoyed it.   I’m not sure why I was surprised I enjoyed it.  I think because I’d never been to a Lutheran church before – I was quite surprised how close the service was to the ones I remembered of my Catholic upbringing.

And, woah – this sounds SAD  (not “boo-hoo” sad but “wow, pathetic” sad), but it’s also been the first weekend without alcohol in a long time.   No wonder I’m so well rested!  I am going to continue with the no alcohol thing throughout Lent  - not that I actually celebrate Lent in that way; it will just keep me motivated to have that calendar structure, I think. And, given how I feel this morning, if this is what it’s like to be, what? Over a week now without alcohol in my system?  Huh. I can’t remember the last time I said that.
Another thing that just woke me up and filled me with smiles this morning was simply my drive in to work.   Not that I was coming to work, mind you….  It’s just that the skyline driving into the city this morning was absolutely breathtaking! The air was so clear and crisp that the lights on the high rises were bright and beautiful.  I can’t describe it and wish I’d had my camera (though, really, the opportunity for a photo while on 85 south of 400 is probably pretty slim).

Today I noticed something I never noticed before, too. Looking back over my right shoulder, I could see all the high rise buildings of Buckhead, lit up from the morning sun.  It was absolutely stunning!   There, I couldn’t see any artificial lights.  And looking over my left shoulder, could not see the sun just yet.   So it was truly just the sunrise reflection on the windows that made the city warm and soft and glowing.  Ah, I envied the folks IN those rooms right then.

In any case, that’s all over now and I’m sure the connector’s clogged and the sun, being quite up, shows the flaws of the city as well as it’s beauty by now.  I’m safely ensconced in my Marietta office, breakfast consumed and another cup of hot coffee freshly poured.  I’m ready for the day, Day!  Come…bring it on!

    Isn’t Lutheran “Catholic-Lite?”

Are you sure the people were reading? Maybe they were all in the library because it was warmer than their homes.

Why don’t you people learn from my mistake? Going alcohol free is dangerous! I cut off a tip of my thumb because there was no alcohol running through my veins! :)

it isn’t Ash Wednesday yet……. is it? I know I’m a lapsed catholic and all, but, I know Mardi Gras isn’t over yet. So, are you just starting Lent early?

I didn’t think Luthernism was typically known as “Catholic Lite,” but it certainly makes sense if so! It, as well as most of the Protestant denominations, really has its foundations stemming from disgust of the (Catholic) church practices at the time. I guess it really shouldn’t surprise me how similar the prayers and everything are if that’st the case.

I think it’s just that being raised Catholic, the only really “other” church in town was Luthern. I just assumed we were drastically different from each other because of it.

Nope, Barb — it’s not Ash Wednesday yet (a week from Wednesday, actually - the 6th) but I got a head start. Mardi Gras (”Fat Tuesday”) is the day before — guess I should have waited until then! :)
